Oval sign for the writers colony at dairy hollowThe Writer’s Colony @ Dairy Hollow in beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas has set aside two deeply discounted residencies for the Kimbilio community.  During 2023, Fellows and Faculty can spend up to two weeks at a cost of $29 per day.  Kimbilio will offer a $200 travel stipend to those who are selected for the residencies, to be paid post residency.  Residents will be identified by Kimbilio (first-come, first-served) and will then have to complete WCDH’s application materials.

ABOUT WCDH

The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is located in the historic arts village of Arkansas – population 2,079—in the Northwest corner of the Ozark Mountains. The town hosts thousands of tourists who come for a slice of its unusual lifestyle.

At WCDH, each suite has its own personality and view of historic Dairy Hollow, with private bath, writing nook, and private entrance. All suites are equipped with mini-fridges and coffee makers. The culinary suite is fully equipped for cookbook writers and chefs. European-style gourmet meals are provided nightly Monday through Friday, and the kitchen is equipped with all the basics so writers can prepare their own breakfasts and lunches.

Eureka Springs is served by the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) in nearby Bentonville, Arkansas, home to Walmart headquarters, the largest retailer in the world, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, open to the public at no charge daily (closed Tuesday). Airport transportation services are available on request.

Board Chair David Haynes and several Kimbilio Fellows have been Writers-in-Residence at WCDH and can attest to it being a quiet and comfortable place to work.

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE WCDH KIMIBILIO SCHOLARSHIP

  1. Residents will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Express your interest (and ask questions) @ kimbiliofiction@gmail.com
  2. Kimbilio will select two 2023 participants and provide the travel stipend.
  3. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangement.  The staff at WCDH are very helpful and can provide information on how best to arrive in Eureka Spring.  A 200-dollar travel stipend will be provided to the selected participants post residency.
  4. While WCDH offers short stays, this opportunity is available for one-week or two-week residencies only.  Fellows may arrange longer than two-week stays with WCDH (space permitting, at the alumni discount rate).
  5. Kimbilio will contact WCDH with the name(s) of the selected participant(s).  WCDH will ask them to submit the Residency Application (with $35 fee waived) and Scholarship Application form so we have all their information in the same format as our residents and scholarship recipients.
  6. All Residency processes, (including confirmation of payment of residency, follow up two weeks before reservation, collecting travel and dietary information, etc.), will follow WCDH standard procedures.

Retreat dates are widely available across 2023.
